The captain for Droppin’ Hooks is Captain John Holzapfel who has been running his own boat for over 15 years and is a fully licensed and insured United States Coast Guard captain. He has been fishing and learning the waters of Raritan Bay and Sandy Hook since he was 9 years old and fishing offshore from the Hudson to Wilmington Canyons, as mate and crew for 12 years. He has combined all these experiences with fulfilling a life long dream of becoming a charter boat captain. Being a father of two girls he enjoyed teaching his daughters how to fish and he continues to find joy in working with young kids and teaching them to catch there first fish. You won’t find a friendlier, courteous captain to help you get on fish! His favorite being Striped Bass!

Droppin’ Hooks is a 23 foot May-Craft Pilothouse Sport Fisherman with an 80 gallon fuel tank and a 140 hp four stroke engine. She is fully equipped with state of the art electronics, such as a Furuno Fishfinder, color GPS chart plotter, backup GPS, and Marine radio. This boat is set and ready for the style of fishing we do in the Raritan Bay and off Sandy Hook waters. Whether it is for trolling, plugging, bottom fishing, etc. our boat carries all the necessary tackle and equipment to provide you with the best chances of catching fish. Droppin’ Hooks has plenty of cockpit space to fish and has a full enclosure for when the weather gets a bit nasty. The boat has a custom live well for live bait and halogen lights to turn the darkness into almost daylight. Also, for your comfort and convenience, the galley is equipped with a microwave and coffee pot. There is even a Porta Pottie in our private and lighted cabin.
